This qualification is based on the HSE training standard for First Aid at Work for the purposes of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 and the certificate is valid for a period of three years.
The course is suitable for people with a specific responsibility to provide first aid when dealing with an emergency situation. The two-days have been designed for those working in the health and fitness industry and includes extensive first aid scenarios that could occur in gym facilities, outdoor fitness training and clinic settings. It is ideal for those who need to be highly competent and confident in their first aid skills and includes practical, hands on training that is relevant to health and fitness professionals.
By the end of the course attendees will have gained the knowledge and competencies needed to deal with a range of emergency first aid situations and be able to demonstrate the practical administration of safe, prompt, effective first aid with an understanding of the role of the first aider.
This course has a strong emphasis on practical scenarios to cement knowledge and improve confidence in dealing with emergencies. To ensure attendees are given high levels of learning support and more feedback during the practical elements, this INTEGRATIVE HEALTH EDUCATION is run with two highly qualified and experienced first aid educators. Most first aid training courses are run with only one educator.
Course Syllabus:
- Understand the role and responsibilities of a first aider
- Be able to assess an incident
- Be able to manage an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally
- Be able to manage an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally
- Recognise and assist a casualty who is choking
- Manage a casualty who is wounded and bleeding
- Manage a casualty who is in shock
- Understand how to manage a casualty with a minor injury
- Be able to conduct a secondary survey
- Be able to administer first to a casualty with injuries to bones, muscles and joints
- Be able to administer first to a casualty with suspected head and spinal injury
- Be able to administer first aid to a casualty with an eye injury
- Be able to administer first aid to a casualty with anaphylaxis
- Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected major illness
- Be able to identify conditions that can affect a client’s ability to undertake a particular activity
- Be able to identify medications, which may give rise to an emergency situation and how this can be avoided
- Be aware of how medications can affect the way in which a casualty reacts to an emergency situation and how this should be dealt with
